Echolocator is an a capella installation using custom megaphones created in collaboration with Matter Design. Given their radial structure, these objects focus acoustic energy in highly directional streams and produce palpable psychoacoustic artefacts as they bounce off architectural surfaces. In collaboration with director Lilleth Glimcher, I staged three different versions of Echolocator from June through August 2018. The first was at the American Academy in Rome, during the Trustees Week Open Studios event, where we staged a migratory sound experiment in the tunnels underneath the villa. The next two took place in Berlin, one at the Funkhaus as part of the PEOPLE festival, and another in an entry tunnel to TAK gallery as part of the DAAD Mikromusik Festival.
